Gyproc EPD 2026

Gyproc South Africa continues to strengthen its leadership in sustainable construction by adding four new Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for key plasterboard products manufactured at its Cape Town facility. Covering RhinoBoard® FireStop®, RhinoBoard® MoistureResistant and RhinoBoard® FireStop® dB boards, this milestone marks a clear evolution in the brand’s journey toward greater transparency, verified performance and world-class manufacturing.
Building on previous sustainability announcements, the latest achievement reinforces Gyproc’s commitment to providing independently verified environmental data that supports architects, developers and contractors in making more informed material choices.

A new phase in Gyproc’s sustainability journey

By expanding its EPD portfolio, Gyproc is not simply keeping pace with market expectations; it is helping to shape them. Globally, Saint-Gobain is targeting Life Cycle Assessments on 100% of our products by 2030. By obtaining third-party-verified EPDs, we’re taking steps toward achieving this important target.
The four new Cape Town EPDs, therefore, represent more than product updates; they signal a step forward in Gyproc’s broader sustainability roadmap.

Manufactured locally, aligned globally

The newly declared products are manufactured at Gyproc’s Cape Town plant, reflecting the company’s focus on local production backed by international standards. Facilities producing plasterboard products are ISO-certified, ensuring consistent quality, environmental management and occupational safety.
This local-plus-global approach aligns with Gyproc’s message that quality and sustainability must go hand in hand. Not all plasterboards are equal, and verified environmental performance is becoming a key differentiator in the market.

The Cape Town EPD expansion demonstrates:

  • Continued investment in world-class manufacturing
  • Greater lifecycle transparency for specifiers
  • Stronger support for green building compliance
  • Confidence for contractors and developers

Strengthening the GreenTag portfolio

Gyproc’s sustainability credentials are further reinforced by its Global GreenTag-certified product range. Global GreenTag is a widely recognised ecolabel that independently verifies product health and environmental performance against rigorous criteria.
Key RhinoBoard® variants, including FireStop®, MoistureResistant, Duraline and Soundbloc, have achieved GreenTag ratings, confirming their suitability for environmentally responsible construction. These products typically feature aerated gypsum cores encased in up to 100% recycled paper liners, supporting resource efficiency and circularity.
By combining GreenTag certification with verified EPDs, Gyproc offers the market a powerful dual layer of proof. Together, they strengthen specifier confidence and support Green Star and other green building frameworks.

Transparency as a competitive advantage

The expansion of EPD coverage also reflects Gyproc’s ongoing commitment to data accuracy and openness. As the construction sector faces increasing pressure to decarbonise, verified environmental information is becoming essential rather than optional.

EPDs aligned to ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards provide credible, comparable data that support:

  • Responsible material selection
  • Green building certification
  • Embodied carbon assessments
  • Sustainable procurement policies

By investing early and consistently in verified documentation, Gyproc is helping to raise the bar for the plasterboard category in South Africa.

Marking the evolution of plasterboard in South Africa

The latest Cape Town EPD additions signal a clear evolution in Gyproc’s strategy, from product compliance to proactive sustainability leadership. Combined with GreenTag certification, local ISO-certified manufacturing and continuous product innovation, the company is positioning its RhinoBoard® range as a benchmark for responsible, high-quality drylining solutions.
As the industry increasingly recognises that quality matters and not all plasterboards are equal, Gyproc’s expanding sustainability credentials provide specifiers and contractors with the confidence to build smarter, safer and more sustainably.
