Win a home upgrade with Saint-Gobain

Leading interior building solutions group, Saint-Gobain, wants to increase awareness about the values and benefits of its building materials and in a unique marketing campaign, is asking South African consumers to enter a competition in which they can win a home upgrade.

Through this campaign, entitled Upgrade My Home, Saint-Gobain wants to demonstrate just how effectively homeowners can retrofit and upgrade their existing homes without having to move. Particularly within the current economic climate, fewer homeowners can afford to either move house or do major renovations. Furthermore, many families may be very content with their current family home but yearn to modernize and improve in order to be more comfortable and efficient.

In order to best demonstrate how easily and effectively these upgrades can be, this campaign will be documenting the upgrade of the existing Rondebosch home of well-known South African media personality and healthcare professional Dr. Michael Mol. Dr. Mol first became aware of Saint-Gobain’s building solutions and benefits during a health conference in 2014, and took an interest in upgrading his well-located, but uncomfortable home into a healthier, warmer and more comfortable environment for his family using Saint-Gobain materials. This upgrade will be monitored and used as a reference project to provide other homeowners with a step-by-step guide showing how they too can upgrade their homes. The home’s thermal, acoustic and energy performance is being measured both before and after the upgrade, providing a valuable, tangible benchmark of effectiveness and comfort.

Saint-Gobain, a multinational world leader in the design of construction systems and building materials, is continually demonstrating its ability to innovate and invent products that improve quality of life. This legacy is evident by its position among the top 100 industrial groups in the world.

The grand prize consisted of state-of-the-art Saint-Gobain building materials designed to improve comfort in a home in five important areas, namely:

  • Improved indoor temperature performance (thermal comfort)
  • Increased savings (economic comfort)
  • Less noise (audio comfort)
  • Better indoor air quality (air comfort)
  • Interiors that increase a sense of calm and wellbeing for their users (visual comfort).

Upgrades like these include the upgrading of all walls, ceilings, insulation, flooring and select glass windows, along with the installation of a web-based digital monitoring solution.  As an added extra you can add a digital monitoring solution that will allow you to remotely monitor temperature, humidity, air quality, electricity and water consumption. Significantly, this monitoring solution also includes efficiently managing energy consumption items such as geysers and pool pumps with the home owner receiving alerts should consumption spike above a preset ceiling value.
