Overview

The Cape Royale Hotel and Luxury Residence offers 83 suites and 130 spaciously proportioned apartments wrapped in five star luxury to business and leisure visitors to South Africa's most beautiful city.

It also offers the high performance environment created by Gyproc's lightweight building systems, achieved with the GypWall* system of products, which also have a key advantage of being a time effective construction method.

The upmarket nature of the project demanded superior finishes, with guests expecting a soothing and aesthetically pleasing environment, with no compromise on design excellence.

The thermal, acoustic and fire performances achieved with GypWall* exceed those normally expected from conventional building methods, offering guests the comfort, privacy and safety that they would expect from a venue of this stature. GypWall's* double track system provides sound insulation up to 70dB, and reduces demand on air conditioning by up to 30%.

GypWall* offers a fire rating from 1-2 hours depending on the system used. Wet areas were prepared with Weber/Tylon compounds in order to accept the superior quality wall tiles. Apart from the tiled areas, all walls were skim plastered with RhinoLite Multipurpose; RhinoLite CreteStone, offering a smooth and silky wall surface that accepted paint or wallpaper without any cause for concern.

In the past, there was the misconception in the construction industry that GypWall* was not equipped to support heavy weights. Yet GypWall* structures are able to carry significant weight through a series of load bearing studs. Thus heavy appliances like wall-mounted TVs and solid finishes such as granite vanities were easily suspended to ensure the integrity of the system.

The extreme conditions in Cape Town - wet winters and hot summers - posed no challenge for the Gyproc walling systems, which are suited to diverse climate conditions.

The walling products are produced from sustainable resources, and the thermal values offered contribute further to their status as a product that demands to be included in the design of any building that aspires to a reduced carbon footprint, or to operating in an energy-efficient manner.
